How would your kids like a full day of mountain bike adventure in the awesome and wild Cheviot hills?
How would YOU like them to learn new bike handling skills and receive expert tuition that will inspire them to get out and ride more often?
Perhaps you are already riding in the High Fell Events Clennel Colossus on the Saturday (www.highfellevents.co.uk) and fancy making a full weekend of it? Or maybe you aren’t doing the Colossus and fancy a family weekend in the Cheviots with something exciting for the children to do on the Sunday?
Either way, if you sign them up, you will all be entitled to FREE camping at Clennel Hall on the Friday AND the Saturday night!
The guided ride, including skills tuition, will run from 10:30am till 4pm. The maximum group size will be 12 (two groups can be ran, so a maximum of 24 places are available!) and the group will be led by fully qualified mountain bike leaders and coaches, who are Outdoor First Aid trained and have enhanced DBS clearance. High Fell Events safety team will also be on the fells, with radios, and water points.
This ride is for children between the age of ten and sixteen years old. Please note that children must be confident riding a bike, and ideally will have had some mountain bike experience, though this is not essential. Terrain is mostly grass and fireroads but will include significant climbs and prolonged descents so a basic level of fitness is required. We will carry out a simple skills assessment and reserve the right to refuse participation if the child cannot exhibit basic control of their bikes. However, the idea is to learn mountain bike skills in a safe and fun but ‘out there’ environment!
The price for this exciting day will be £30 or £40 if you would like to loan one of our fully serviced Specialized bikes and helmets. The price also includes an EXCLUSIVE goody bag!
The additional £10 for bike hire will be payable on the day. Please contact us BY SUNDAY 4TH JUNE with the height of your child if you would like to use one of our bikes. We have an extensive bike fleet but will need to confirm that we have an appropriately sized bike for your child, depending on demand. If your child is using their own bike, please ensure it is in good working order before the day and arrive at 9:30am so we can carry out a mechanical check. We reserve the right to not take a child on the ride if their bike is not deemed to be in suitable condition and their clothing is inappropriate for the weather conditions. Please be prepared! Feel free to email us if you have any questions about equipment and clothing.
Children will need to bring a packed lunch and a minimum of one litre of water. They will also need to bring, as a minimum, a waterproof jacket and a warm top. Please also bring a small back pack. We recommend gloves, even if the weather is warm.
Please email us BY SUNDAY 4TH JUNE if you would like to camp, and specify if it is one or two nights.
We will ask you to complete a registration form on the morning of the event on behalf of your child. We will ask for medical history and permissions. If you have any questions about this, or the event in general, please do not hesitate in contacting us.
