About this event
How will we be using and creating colour in the near and far future and what will it’s role in design be? In this talk we will discuss how designers can use colour beyond its aesthetic qualities to make life better, safer and more sustainable in a post pandemic world.
Chair – Marianne Shillingford
Marianne Shillingford is the Creative Director of Dulux/Akzonobel UK. She has over 30 years of experience in the interiors industry as a decorating and colour expert. In her current role she works closely with many creative disciplines from designers, architects and professional decorators to global colour experts and scientists. She is a passionate expert and skilled communicator with experience in TV, radio and journalism. Marianne is also the founder of the Colour in Design Awards, which recognises and rewards outstanding use of colour in design by emerging creative talent.
Laura Perryman, Colour & Material Designer & Trend Forecaster
Laura is colour and material designer and trends forecaster with a background in creating advanced palettes for brands as diverse and forward-thinking as Nokia, Speedo, 3M, and Panasonic Europe. Currently she directs Colour of Saying, a consultancy that specialises in future-forward design with colour and materials collaborating with brands and companies to navigate future opportunities and create intelligent and sustainable colour choices. Laura’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, House & Garden and Business Week.

Office S&M elevate the everyday. Established by Catrina Stewart and Hugh McEwen in 2013, Office S&M is an award-winning architecture practice working with a 50/50 split of public and private clients on individual homes, new-build housing, workspace retrofit and public realm projects. MAMIMU (aka June Mineyama-Smithson) is a London-based artist on a mission to inject optimism into the world. Special lecturer at UAL, D&AD judge and speaker at YOOX Net-a-Porter, Design Manchester and Ladies, Wine & Design.
