Colour The Coast 2017
Sun 13 August 2017, 10:00 – 14:00 BST
What is ‘Colour the Coast’?
Colour the Coast is one of the most colourful fun runs you will ever experience and great to do with friends, family or colleagues. The aim is to have a good time, it is less about speed and more about celebrating life.
During the 5k course there will be five colour zones which runners pass through. Here, willing helpers known as the ‘Cheery Chuckers’ will shower you and your white Colour the Coast t-shirt with our special 100% safe colour powder; each colour zone has it's own specific colour. As you go, the colours build, until by the end of the course you have become your very own colourful masterpiece. Once at the finish line you will be greeted to the finish line party, where we will celebrate together throwing powder into the sky to create a colour cloud, and even at people you don’t know (yet)!
Please read the FAQ's below and the Terms and Conditions for full details.
Rule #1 All participants are welcome… fast, slow, runner, walker, old, and young.
Rule #2 You must wear your Colour the Coast white t-shirt at the official start line and get ready to roll!
Rule #3 Have fun!

Do I have to run the 5k or can I walk?
The St Michael’s Hospice Colour the Coast event is all about having a fun day out with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or skip if you wish – make the most of the event, no need to rush through it! Don’t forget at the finish you get to PARTY!
Is Colour the Coast timed?
No, take it at your own pace and make the most of the experience. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.
Can children take part?
Absolutely! This is a family event. Children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult at ALL times. (Please refer to the events Terms and Conditions). Unfortunately due to health and safety concerns pushchairs are NOT allowed to be used during the run.
Do I have to raise sponsorship?
Fundraising for this event is highly recommended and each participant will receive a sponsorship form.
It may help to know that:
- £16.50 will pay for one hours In Patient nursing
- £55 will pay for one day’s nursing supplies, including medication for one patient
- £130 will pay for one patient to visit Day Services.
Is there wheelchair access?
Yes, St Michael’s Hospice has made every effort to cater for participants with limited mobility, however there are a couple of areas where there are inclines. We have created a small diversion to aid this, please see the route map in your race pack. if you have any concerns about these, or wish to have a chat about them, please contact us.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately dogs and other pets are not allowed.
What is in the coloured powder?
The Colour the Coast coloured powder is non-toxic, 100% natural, safe and biodegradable. It is edible, although we do not advise that you eat it as it’s not very tasty! If you have a skin allergy or respiratory condition we would recommend you consult your doctor for advice.
Does the coloured powder harm the environment?
The coloured powder is 100% natural and water soluble and will not cause any damage to the environment. We will have a clean-up team in place to remove the coloured powder on the ground after the event.
What happens with the coloured powder during the run?
The paint will be aimed onto the body of the runners in the designated colour zones by our Cheery Chuckers, however, you may get some coloured powder on your head/face. We recommend that you wear sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes and a bandana to cover your mouth, but this is not essential. (Sunglasses will be available to purchase on the day).
Can I throw my packets of coloured powder along the route?
No, the local Council have only given us permission to throw the coloured powder in the colour zones. Please save your packets of coloured powder for the finish line party and use them to create kaleidoscopic colour clouds. Make sure you bring something to carry them in.
What should I wear and will it get ruined?
All participants must wear their official ‘Colour the Coast’ white t-shirt and any running clothes that you don’t mind getting messy. Well-fitting trainers are recommended, but please don’t wear your expensive ones as they will end up every colour of the rainbow. The coloured pigment should wash out of most fabrics but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting stained. After testing the coloured powder, we know that white is never white again after being pelted with it. The coloured powder is water soluble so you can wash the clothes as normal, but avoid washing them with normal clothes. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better.
How do we get clean after the run?
We recommend you shake off all excess powder before leaving. You won’t be 100% clean but you will be able to remove most of it. We recommend that you leave a towel in your car to cover your seat or spare clothes to put on top of your running gear. A bin bag with 3 holes cut for your arms and head works brilliantly!
Will you have changing rooms or storage?
No, please arrive with limited personal belongings or leave them with friends or family who are coming to watch.
Are cameras and phones safe to use during the event?
We will have official photographers taking photos throughout the day which will be available to download after the event. If you want to get shots right in the midst of the action we recommend that you have a suitable cover on your phone or camera.
Can spectators attend?
Absolutely! Whilst spectators are NOT allowed to participate in the race, or enter the colour zones, they are encouraged to join in the finish line party. Spectators can also purchase coloured powder at the sales kiosk – the only thing we cannot guarantee is that spectators will stay clean.
Are tickets transferable or refundable?
Unfortunately, your place is non-transferable and non-refundable.
When will I receive my race pack?
You will be advised via email when race packs can be collected from the Hospice; this will include your Colour the Coast t-shirt, packets of coloured powder paint and your race guide.
