Event Details

What is ‘Colour the Coast’?

Colour the Coast is one of the most colourful fun runs you will ever experience and is great to do with friends, family or colleagues. Join us for the ultimate feel good summer event. The aim is to have a good time; it is less about speed and more about having fun.

During the 5k course, there will be five different colour zones, which runners pass through. Hospice volunteers known as ‘Cheery Chuckers’ will shower you and your white Colour the Coast t-shirt with special, 100% safe, colour powder. As you go around the course, the colours build, until you become your very own colourful masterpiece. At the finish line, there will be a party to celebrate together, were we will throw coloured powder into the sky, creating colour clouds and enjoy the music.

Please read the FAQ's below and the Terms and Conditions for full details.

Colour the Coast - raising funds for St Michael's Hospice

Fundraising for this event is highly recommended.  You will each receive a sponsorship form for the race, however, you can also raise funds for the Hospice in a variety of fun ways such as; a cake sale, a mufti day at work or even by selling kisses!

Do I have to run the route or can I walk?

St Michael’s Hospice’s Colour the Coast event is all about having a fun day out with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or skip if you wish – make the most of the event, no need to rush through it. Don’t forget at the finish you can join the colour cloud party.

Is Colour the Coast timed?

No, take it at your own pace and make the most of the experience. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.

Can children take part?

Absolutely! This is a family event. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times (please see Terms and Conditions). Due to health and safety, pushchairs may not be used during the run.

Do I have to raise sponsorship?

Fundraising for this event is highly recommended and each participant will receive a sponsorship form.

Is there wheelchair access?

Yes, St Michael’s Hospice has made every effort to cater for participants with limited mobility, however, there are a couple of areas featuring steep inclines. We have created a small diversion to aid this, please see the route map in your race pack. If you have any concerns, or wish to have a chat about them, please contact us.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs and other pets are not able to participate in this event.

What is in the coloured powder?

Colour the Coast coloured powder is non-toxic, 100% natural, safe and biodegradable. It is edible, although we do not advise you eat it, as it is not very tasty. If you have a skin allergy or respiratory condition, we would recommend you consult your doctor for advice.

Does the coloured powder harm the environment?

The coloured powder is 100% natural and water-soluble and will not cause any damage to the environment. The Hospice will have a clean-up team in place to remove the coloured powder on the ground after the event.

What happens with the coloured powder during the run?

Hospice Cheery Chuckers will aim the paint onto the body of the runners in the designated colour zones, however, you may get some coloured powder on your head/face. We recommend you wear sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes and a bandana to cover your mouth, but this is not essential (sunglasses will be available to buy on the day).

Can I throw my packets of coloured powder along the route?

No, Hastings Borough Council have only given us permission to throw the coloured powder in the designated colour zones. Please save your packets of coloured powder for the finish line party and use them to create kaleidoscopic colour clouds. Make sure you bring something to carry your powder in around the course.

What should I wear and will it get ruined?

All participants must wear their official ‘Colour the Coast 2019’ white t-shirt and any running clothes that you do not mind getting messy. Well-fitting trainers are recommended, but please do not wear expensive ones, as they will end up every colour of the rainbow. The coloured pigment should wash out of most fabrics but please wear clothes that you do not mind getting stained.

After testing the coloured powder, we know white is never white again after being covered in it. The coloured powder is water-soluble so you can wash the clothes as normal, but avoid washing them with normal clothes. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better.

How do we get clean after the run?

We recommend you shake off all the excess powder before leaving, you won’t be 100% clean but you will be able to remove most of it. We recommend you leave a towel in your car to cover your seat or spare clothes to put on top of your running gear. A bin bag with three holes cut out for your arms and head works brilliantly.

Will you have changing rooms or storage?

No, please arrive with limited personal belongings or leave them with friends or family who are coming to watch.

Are cameras and phones safe to use during the event?

We will have official photographers taking photos throughout the day, which will be available to view on social media after the event. If you want to get shots right in the midst of the action, we recommend you have a suitable cover on your phone or camera.

Can spectators attend?

Absolutely. Whilst spectators may not participate in the race, or enter the colour zones, they are encouraged to join in the finish line party. Spectators can also purchase coloured powder at the sales kiosk – the only thing we cannot guarantee is that spectators will stay clean.

Are tickets transferable or refundable?

Unfortunately, your place is non-transferable and non-refundable.

When will I receive my race pack?

You will be advised via email when race packs can be collected from the Hospice; this will include your Colour the Coast t-shirt, packets of coloured powder paint and race guide.

My question hasn’t been answered here, what do I do?

Please email or call 01424 456396.
