Come and enjoy creating a wet-felted textile in a relaxing environment at Florence Mine Arts Centre. All materials will be provided and no prior experience is needed. Local artist, Rachel Metcalfe, will lead you step-by step through the process of wet-felting and help to provide you with ideas and inspiration for your unique felt. The opportunity to add extra details to your work, through the process of hand sewing or needle-felting, will also be explained and demonstrated.
At the end of the session, you will have your own individual piece of felted art to take home.
Rachel is a West Cumbrian artist who explores a place through the experience of walking. Inspired by the natural world, her work is an art collaboration and dialogue between nature and her journey through a place – a push and pull relationship. Rachel constantly seeks new perspectives: peeling back the layers of a place to discover something new. She records her walking journeys through sketches made on location and then translates her sketchbook work into paintings or textiles using a range of media.
This session is suitable for beginners aged 18+ with reasonable mobility. Our centre is wheelchair accessible with parking on site, ramped access to the studio door and level throughout. We have a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
