 Joy Joses

A communications veteran with almost 20 years’ experience in the charity sector and latterly, the NHS, Joy Joses spotted the huge gap in the magazine market for publications that represented people of colour more than 20 years ago. Keeping a close eye on the situation, Joy embarked on her quest to gain the skills and knowledge that would allow her to launch a magazine for women of colour, her chosen ambition. She achieved a journalism degree from the renowned City University, London and enjoyed a fulfilling communications career that honed her skills in a number of communications areas including media, public relations and events. Today, Joy utilizes all of those skills as she recently founded and launched the first online, lifestyle magazine for women of colour, in September 2016.

Speaking about her magazine, Joy, a wife and mother to two boys, says: “Melan Mag was launched to serve as the online BFF for the UK woman of colour. Our mission is to offer though-provoking articles, features and inspiration for smart, stylish black women. Melan Mag will also feature news and content on role models, fashion, health and beauty, travel and lifestyle, all from the point of view of the woman of colour’s culture and experience.”
