Event description

Description

Colouring in Place is a free natural dye and quilting workshop where the public gets to help make a map quilt of the greenery of East London while trying out these textile techniques.

How will it work? There are two ways you can participate.

1. Let us know which local plants, trees or green spaces that you notice or appreciate in East London in advance of the workshop by by entering your suggestion here. It only takes 5 minutes and you can add as many as you like. We hope to get as many ideas as possible to make as rich a map of the area as we can so tell your friends!

2. We'll be turning many of these into natural dyes for a workshop where everyone who comes on the day can learn how to add these colours to a community quilt map of East London greenery. To take part in the workshop book your eventbrite ticket to join us between 12 and 4pm on Sunday the 27th. Spaces at the workshop are free but space is limited. (This workshop is for adults, 18 and over, due to the restrictions of the dye set-up we'll have at the venue)

More information:

Plant dyes are often not the colour you'd expect them to be with often startling and beautiful colour results! For the best chance of your plant being added as a dye to the quilt send us in your story online in advance. By the end of the workshop day we'll have made a community quilt that starts to show what the dye palette of the area looks like and be a vivid map for the green landscape of East London.

This event is taking place as part of the Chelsea Fringe Festival and supported by the Bow Arts programme of events, Raw Materials: Textiles.
