Event Details

welcomes the return of LEONE ROSS!  Her 2014 Inscribe Masterclass on magic realism and erotica, remains one of our most highly-rated workshops. In this workshop, the acclaimed Jamaican/British writer will teach you, how to refine your writing with specific attention to the role and importance of structure and pacing. Through a combination of mini-lecture, group work and plenty of writing exercises, you'll consider a range of novellists and short story writers and examine how they employ these key elements.

This practical workshop is suitable for those already writing short stories and novels, who either want guidance on how to develop their craft, or who want to refresh their skills.

Leone Ross's latest publication is Come Let Us Sing Anyway - a short story collection [Peepal Tree Press, 2017].  She is the author of the critically-acclaimed novels All The Blood Is Red (Anchor) and Orange Laughter (Picador). Her speculative fiction and erotica has been widely anthologised. Her third novel, This One Sky Day is forthcoming. She teaches Creative Writing at Roehampton University, London and provides individual mentoring and manuscript reading to many, including a number of Inscribe writers. You can read all about Leone's book on the Peepal Tree website here, and follow #ComeLetUsSingAnyway on social media.

Inscribe

Inscribe is the small, successful professional writer development programme for writers of Black and Asian descent, run by Kadija George (Publications Manager) and Dorothea Smartt (Programme Manager). Inscribe is rooted in Peepal Tree Press -the home of challenging and inspiring literature from the Caribbean and Black Britain, and its committment to writer development and new writing. Based in Leeds, Inscribe began as a project to develop specific writers of African and Asian descent in West Yorkshire. We now support a small selected group of Black and Asian writers around the country offering bespoke creative support, editorial feedback, and/or professional writer development, to each one through one-to-one coaching, mentoring, annual gatherings, and professional support. The Inscribe imprint continues to publish chapbooks by new and emerging Black British writers and themed anthologies. We programme open workshops, annual residentials, and offer one-off coaching sessions, advice, and information through our Inscribe blog and Facebook page.
