Event description

Description

The multi-talented broadcaster and musician Brian Kay is coming to Dorking to host a ‘come and sing’ event as part of the Mole Valley Arts Alive Festival. The special work chosen for the day is Karl Jenkins' 'The Armed Man - a Mass for Peace' and participants will be taken through every style and mood of this unique piece before performing it informally at the end of the day.

Brian expects us to sing the entire work and will have the asistance of pianist Robin Baggs.

The event is organised by the Leith Hill Musical Festival, of which Brian Kay is the President (and was formerly its conductor for 20 years).

REGISTRATION from 09.30

MUSIC TO BORROW FOR THE DAY IS INCLUDED (but if bringing your own, please bring only the full vocal score - the shorter Choral Suite will be insufficient).

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is free car parking at the Priory School. For public transport: Dorking (from London) and Dorking Deepdene (cross-country from Reigate, Guildford and Reading) railway stations are about 30 minutes' walk away, but buses 22, 32, 93 and 465 go from these stations to Townfield Court (Stop S) in South Street, leaving only a 7 minute walk. Get off just before the main road turns north as Vincent Lane and go straight ahead down a small footpath which eventually leads through streets and paths to the school. Other local buses also pass this point.

What about Food and Drink?

There is a one hour break for lunch and, given that the town centre is at least 10 minutes' walk away, it may not be practicable to seek out a pub or restaurant. Bringing your own packed lunch is advisable, but the school's PTA will be on hand with a variety of drinks and snacks for sale at reasonable prices and in a good cause. There is a short 'comfort break' mid-morning (no time for tea or coffee) but a proper tea break mid-afternoon.

What can I bring into the event?

Some refreshments (and the full score, if you have one). There are limited cloakroom facilities so you may prefer to keep your things by your seat in the hall, which you will retain for the whole day (in voice part sections).

What's the refund policy?

We regret that we are unable to accept requests for refunds.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Either your printed ticket or the emailed version will be needed when borrowing your score and being seated in the hall.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Your registration is personal for each singer and not transferable.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Any questions may be addressed to the Organiser (Mandy Begg) by email to secretary@lhmf.org.uk
