Event description

Description

Come and enjoy festive comedy and carols in the magnificent Durham Cathedral.

Compered by Andy Kind we've got a great evening of entertainment from Lloyd Griffith, Allan Fennegan and Stephen Cookson who will provide laughs for the entire family. We've got some carolling too ….but not always the way you would imagine.......

Lloyd Griffith

Lloyd Griffith is a comedian, a professional choirboy and a good-looking guy. He took his debut solo show to Edinburgh fringe festival in 2014 to rave reviews. In 2014 he appeared on BBC3’s Sweat The Small Stuff, BBC Radio 1s Live Lounge Comedy Club as well as supporting Rob Beckett on his 2013-2014 sold out UK tour. In 2015 Lloyd appeared on RTE’s Hey Ho Let’s Go and later in the year Lloyd took his second show ‘Great Grimsby’s Big Turn On’ to Edinburgh, again, to rave reviews.

"Supersub Lloyd Griffith delivered some punchy gags about growing up in Grimsby. He also revealed a jaw-dropping singing voice. Expect to hear more from Griffith" BRUCE DESSAU, Evening Standard

"The next big thing" FHM

"Griffith in particular was absolutely outstanding" BROADWAY BABY

Andy Kind

Andy Kind won Anything for Laffs in 2005 and soon hurdles over the 2000-gig barrier. Other stuff happened in between. Described by The Scotsman as ‘Terrific’, Andy’s stand-up style can best be described as ‘the joyful rant of a post-30 chaos vacuum’, and he has been featured on BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 in the UK. Not long after supporting Tim Vine, Andy’s first book Stand Up and Deliver was published by Lion Hudson. He’s since published The Gig Delusion (Wilmot Books) and The Unfortunate Adventures of Tom Hillingthwaite (Lion Hudson). He’s frequently hosted successful residences at New Wine and Spring Harvest; whilst in 2015, Andy toured a series of comedy clubs and churches in South Africa alongside Mark Palmer.

“MC Andy Kind was absolutely hilarious!" Guardian

Allan Finnegan

Minister by day, comedian by night. This Baptist minister found the perfect way to deal with church hecklers by becoming a stand-up comedian and in 2015 won Hot Water Comedy Club Comedian of the Year. Reverend Allan Finnegan is a pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Merseyside and admits he has occasionally had to deal with the odd heckler interrupting his services. But those hecklers should think again as Allan is now leaving audiences in stitches as a stand-up comedian.

"A bad priest but a great act" Binty Blair, Hot Water Comedy Club
"Hugely promising comedian with a unique background" Sam Avery, Maghull Comedy Club

Stephen Cookson

Barnoldswick Comedian of the Year 2016

Runner-up Nando's New Comedian of the Year 2015

Less than a year after starting out, Stephen entered the Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year in 2015, winning his heat and appearing in the final in front of 400 people with Rob Beckett MCing the event. As a result of reaching the final he was also offered a spot in the quarter finals of the Leicester Square New Comedian of 2015 in November. He then got to the final of the Nando’s New Comedian of the Year, coming a close second, and then in 2016 he won Barnoldswick Comedian of the Year. Yeah, he hadn’t heard of it either until he entered … AND WON.

"Old whippersnapper and worryingly funny. Frankly I hope he stops doing comedy before he costs me work" Gary Delaney

“Deadpan one-liners that were perfectly executed and written. Had one lady hyperventilating and begging for him to stop. The quality of this man’s gags are up there with Milton Jones and Gary Delaney” Bryan Malcolm (The Haha Club)
