About this event
Comedy Night at the MET with Sara Barron, Paul Savage and Darran Griffiths (18+)
Sara Barron is one of the fastest-rising comedians of her generation. Since her 2018 debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, she’s starred on shows including Live at the Apollo (BBC), Would I Lie to You? (BBC) and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order (BBC).
A powerhouse live act, Sara’s two stand-up hours, For Worse (2018) and Enemies Closer (2019) have sold out at both the Edinburgh Festival and at multiple runs in London’s Soho Theatre.
Having made his comedy debut in 2007 Paul Savage is an established pro on the UK comedy scene. In his years on the circuit, he has just about covered the entire country as well as making time for a tour of english-speaking venues in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
This year he will be taking his seventh solo hour to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where previous shows have garnered both critical and audience approval. Over the course of his career Paul has racked up an impressive list of accolades including a nomination for 'Best Full Length Debut Show' at the Leicester Festival, Juice Comedy club's 'Performer of the Year', the West Midlands Comedy Awards 'Most Improved Act' and the West Midlands Comedy Awards 'Best Joke'.
A comedian, host and podcaster born and raised in Harlow, to Jamaican parents, Darran Griffiths has a blend of Caribbean confidence and Essex irreverence. Flagrant, thought-provoking and funny.
In 2018 he was Amused Moose National New Comedian semi-finalist, BBC New Comedy Award nominee and Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian runner-up. In 2019 he sold out his debut show ‘Essex Bwoy’ at the Camden Fringe. In 2021 he was British Comedian of the Year semi-finalist. He has performed at some of the top comedy clubs in London as well as sold out shows at the Hackney Empire and the Indigo at the O2.
To date, he has already appeared on television and radio, including Yanga TV, BBC Radio and Pulse88 FM, where he presented and produced a weekly Saturday morning radio show called the Saturday Morning Hangover.
He has been tour support of BBC Radio’s Aurie Styla and part of the national WAHALA Tour: Jamaica vs Africa, with Britain’s Got Talents’ Kojo Anim.
He also hosts a weekly podcast called Griff’s Brain Dump, where he discusses his personal life and current affairs.
What is the MET?
The MET – Mobile Event Tent – is a striking new city centre event space.
It has been installed in Preston city centre- in the city’s Harris Quarter and is play host to an array of events helping to bring people back into the city centre and supporting businesses hit hard by the pandemic.
The contemporary structure, has been designed and developed in Preston, is made from specially adapted shipping containers, a state-of-the-art fabric cover, and other materials to create an inspiring 150 square metre space capable of accommodating up to 100 people.
It will initially be situated next to Preston Market with the ability to move the structure to other city centre locations when needed in the following years.
The project is being funded from the £20.9m the city secured from the government’s Towns Fund for a series of regeneration projects in the Harris Quarter. The MET will play a key role in encouraging people back into the city centre, generating economic activity, and providing work for local artists. The programme is funded by Preston City Council, UCLan and Lancashire County Council.
