Event description

Description

Blow the January blues away with Comedy at the Wheatsheaf, back at your local, the glorious Wheatsheaf, Tooting Bec!

A cavalcade of comedy folk are coming your way this month - deliciously sardonic MARIA SHEHATA, evil doctor MATT HUTCHINSON, effervescently expressive MATT HIGHTON and lyrical genius HARRIET BRAINE!

Hilariously anarchic MATT HIGHTON is coming to Tooting, and we're insanely excited. Rach saw Matt tell a story about how he got chased by a shark at the theatre and circus tent at Glastonbury festival in 2017, and booked him immediately. You have to see this act! "Wonderful surrealism" - The Guardian, "Warm, intelligent and beautifully written" - The List

Multi award-winning American comedian MARIA SHEHATA has been making a name for herself in the UK. Featured on Comedy Central, Showtime, the BBC and Comic Relief, her conversational delivery and no-nonsense candor is sardonic yet playful and has been charming audiences all over the world. “A performer to watch out for.” - Broadway World. “I love Maria Shehata. Funny on and off stage.” - Bill Burr

MATT HUTCHINSON is a doctor. This makes his parents very proud. He's also a stand up comedian. This makes them very confused. They have relaxed a bit now he plays clubs they've actually heard of, including the Comedy Store, Backyard and Wheatsheaf Tooting! (We may have added that last one.)

Headlining we have the "truly inspired" (Bruce Dessau's words not ours) HARRIET BRAINE!

Harriet is a musical comedian who won both Musical Comedy Awards Best Newcomer and the Funny Women Stage Award in 2016. She is working on her third hour-long show, Les Admirables, which focuses on women in the history of science.

"A breath of fresh air in a world that still likes a knob joke" Huff Post

"Harriet will have you howling" Metro

PLUS!

Back by public transport, it's our resident pianist, ANT DEWSON! He was ill in November and we missed him terribly. We're delighted to announce that Ant and his stunted Steinway will be back with cheerful ditties and sordid songs dirty enough to make your brain melt. “Highlight of the night.” - Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music

Your MC and host for the evening NICOLA HOUGHTON will be accompanied by partner in crime RACHEL WHEELEY and we cannot wait to see you.

Line up subject to change. Over 18s only.

See you Thursday!
