Event description

Description

Workshop with Richard Skinner, author and Director of the Fiction Programme at Faber Academy, designed to help writers of any level turn their characters into living, breathing citizens.

For many writers, character is the holy grail. But what is character and how does a character on paper become a living, breathing citizen, walking and talking and acting in the world? In this 'Coming at Character from all angles' workshop, we will be looking at the various ways we can approach the whole notion of character, including through action, existential situation, observation and description.

You will be meeting and talking to lots of like-minded people and doing lots of fun, stimulating writing exercises. I hope you’ll come away from the day feeling positive, curious and ready to have a go!

Richard Skinner is the author of, The Red Dancer, which was translated into seven languages. He has also published a collection of poetry, the light user scheme, and a writer's handbook, Fiction Writing. A translation of The Velvet Gentleman was shortlisted in France for the Prix Livres & Musiques. He is Director of the Fiction Programme at Faber Academy.
