Mr Yakubu Karagama
Consultant ENT Surgeon
MBBS, DLO, MSc, FRCS (ORL-HN), PGMed Cert
Mr Yakubu Karagama is one of the leading experts in the management of voice disorders. He also specialised in diagnosing and treating professional voice disorders. He completed his ENT Higher Surgical Training in Northeast Deanery, Newcastle Upon-Tyne in 2007. His primary qualification was in the management of General Ear, Nose & Throat disorders including nasal problems.
Furthermore, due to his long experience and special interest in promoting research and innovations in the field of voice he has been elected council member of the British Voice Association and British Laryngological Association. He was one of the founders and the first Secretary of the British Laryngological Association. He has travelled abroad and completed travelling fellowships to University of California, Davis to train on swallowing disorder under Professor Peter Belafsky and to Kyoto under Professor Emeritus Isshiki where he learnt advanced procedures in the management of voice disorders.
He has been regularly invited as a keynote speaker internationally and has introduced cutting edge treatment in voice disorders. He runs the laryngology centre at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital NHS Foundation Trust London where established new high-quality treatment to his patients in his area of expertise voice, airway and swallowing disorders.
He is the founder and Course Director for the International Manchester Phonosurgery course, International Laser and Laryngeal Airway Course and International Dysphagia and transnasal Oesophagoscopy Course on investigation and management of swallow disorder. He is also keen in voice research and obtained an MSc in Advance Voice Research at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2005. Yakubu Karagama has presented his research and won prizes at national and international conferences, including the North of England Otolaryngological Society, the Royal Society of Medicine and the British Association Conference of Otolaryngologists (BACO). He has authored and co-authored over 30 publications, is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at both University of Manchester and Edge Hill Universities and Honorary Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester.
