Common Grazing - Best Management and Finance Methods
Are you a Clerk, Treasurer, Common Grazing Committee member, or a shareholder in a Common? Join us for two part informative and informal meetings to learn and discuss the best way to run the CG, and look after the finances and ensure fair payments out and in.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday 10th September 2025, Latheron Hall, Latheron, KW5 6DL at 6.30PM with the second meeting taking place the following week.
Using a fictional Common Grazing, we’ll explore the best ways to run your Common Grazing, manage the finances, and ensure fair and transparent contributions. We'll explore the real-world challenges faced by committee members and shareholders alike. You will leave understanding how to make matters more manageable, what is expected from shareholders, and the information that shareholders should receive.
Key Questions We'll Tackle:
How do you calculate fair maintenance contributions?
What if some shareholders are absentee or inactive?
How should resumption money be fairly shared?
What happens with vacant shares?
What's the difference between maintenance and improvement costs?
What are the duties of committee members?
You will have confidence in knowing:
- Obligations of shareholders
- What to do if some shareholders are absentee or inactive
- The effect of apportionments
- Communication and Notices
Plus, there will be plenty of time for your own questions, answered by Finlay Beaton from the Crofting Commission and Arthur MacDonald.
