Event description

Description

The Commonwealth Broadband Pacific Forum 2017, takes place on 25 – 27 July 2017 at Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi (TATTE) Convention Center, Sogi, Apia, Samoa. This event is organised by the CTO and is hosted by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Office of the Regulator of Samoa.
Following its series of successful events on Connecting Rural Communities, the CTO launched a new conference series on broadband in 2014 in view of the key role that broadband plays in development. The Commonwealth Broadband Forum 2014 was hosted by Kenya, the 2015 forum by Nigeria and the 2016 forum took place in Malaysia. In order to allow wider stakeholder participation, the CTO also organised a regional conference of which the first was the Caribbean Broadband Forum held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2016. Following the success of these Forums the Secretariat is holding a regional Commonwealth Pacific Forum on Broadband.

This Pacific Broadband Forum, under the theme “Broadband for Enhancing Pacific Lives” will address the role Broadband will play in the Pacific. The forum will provide an excellent opportunity for participants to learn from global experts as well as sharing experiences in successes and challenges of broadband deployment and utilisation, with a particular emphasis in small island developing states, through interactive sessions. This event is a veritable platform to meet with fellow policy makers from across the Pacific, learn from their experiences and gain insights.

The audience will be composed of Ministers, senior officials in policy making bodies, regulators, broadcasters, content developers, network infrastructure providers, operators, equipment manufacturers and opinion leaders. Among many aspects of Broadband due to be examined at the event are:

  • Broadband: the status of Pacific Islands
  • Financing Broadband Infrastructure
  • National Broadband plans/strategies
  • Over the Top Services
  • Cloud services and the Pacific
  • Spectrum Management
  • Cybersecurity and Cybercrime
