About this Event

“April is the cruellest month, breeding

Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing

Memory and desire, stirring

Dull roots with spring rain.”

The Wasteland by TS Eliot

Join us for an empowering ritualistic performance and collective spell responding to the hostile times we live in. Delivered by artist, curator, and educator Wingshan Smith the lunch will include a seed bomb workshop and helpings of ‘rebirth soup’ to usher in Spring 2020.

Wingshan Smith works to negotiate the everyday tensions in (re-)discovering self-hood, authenticity, and spirituality in an increasingly commoditised surveilled world. Whilst much of her work is auto-biographical, her work more generally seeks to interact with themes such as histories which are readily forgotten or musings on our relationships to each other in a virtual networked age.

This event is part of Mansions of the Future’s Lincoln Live programme (March – June 2020). Departing from Lincoln’s rich entertainment and theatre history, Lincoln Live features new commissions which exist at the intersections of disciplinary boundaries. The season is a celebration of performative ventures that stand resolutely marginal to both the history of English theatre and the often exclusive, disciplinary rhetoric of contemporary performance art.
