--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Registration for this workshop will remain open for one further week after the event begins on 22nd January.

If you do wish to register after 9 am 22nd January please also contact the course organisers directly, Dr Shirley Cooper at shirley.cooper@liverpool.ac.uk for instructions to begin the course.. Otherwise your enrollment onto the course may be delayed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This 10 week course offers participants opportunities to communicate their research with other researchers in a supportive and structured online environment. The course will provide an 'online meeting place' in SharePoint, where participants can share discussions around any common PhD topic, but including writing and presentation skills and related topics. Your engagement within the course is entirely flexible, to fit in with your research and other work. Two hours per week is recommended.

The course offers participants opportunities to communicate their own research in an article they will prepare over the period of the course. Through this activity you will:

  • Gain practice in writing and communicating elements of your research to others, and so review and share ideas for your research project.
  • Gain feedback from those outside your field of research on your writing and your research ideas.
  • Learn about the different areas of research in the University and see also how others present their research and write differently, their styles, approaches and so on.
  • Engage and gain direct experience of the Peer review process.

A direct outcome of the course is a ready-made article that may be submitted to University news, be the start of a personal blog, or be developed into a submission to external agencies such as ‘The conversation’.

The course is open to Postgraduate Researchers at Liverpool working or from any science or engineering related background or who wishes to communicate with researchers in these fields.

To complete the course, you do not need complete all course components. However, as past participants will testify, you will gain most from the course when you can join in relevant opportunities, and, in particular, to complete your article and be able to join in the peer review process. Our weekly reminders to help you keep to the schedule, but there is considerable flexibility. The spread over ten weeks allows you to combine your degree, your other jobs (where relevant) and participate actively in this networking forum.

Testimonials from past participants:

‘ ... the feedback is invaluable, its great to hear how other people perceive my work, and how I can improve. ’
So far I have often felt quite alone in my research and the additional contact with others from alternate areas has been educational as well as supportive.’

This workshop offers opportunities to gain skills outlined in the RDF subdomains A2, A3, B1, D2 and D3.

Registration: You are recommended to use your University of Liverpool email to register on Eventbrite and then the calendar invitation will be added to your University calendar. We reserve the right to remove attendees who do not appear to be members of this University.
