Event Details

Communicating your Research, a workshop with Jorge Cham (creator of PhD comics)

Workshop Description:

Nowadays it is more important than ever that scientists and academics speak passionately and accessibly to the public about how and why they do research. For research students, this type of communication is a key transferrable skill.

In this two hour workshop Jorge Cham, creator of PhD Comics discusses his experiences creating successful science communication projects (videos and comics that have been viewed by millions of people and a book release from Penguin Random House) and helps participants discover the skills needed to communicate clearer with a broader audience.

Through examples and hands on activities you will learn how to:

  • communicate complex topics in accessible ways
  • use creativity in communication
  • know your audience

Participants will also create a 1 - 2 minute video that explains a complex topic to a general audience.

Apply for a place:

To apply for a place on this workshop, please explain the benefits you think attendance would have on your research project and your subsequent impact. Maximum 50 words.

There are only 25 places available, so not every applicant will be offered a place. Places will be offered on a competitive basis. The deadline to apply is Friday 2 March.

You may also wish to register to attend Jorge Cham's lecture on Monday 19 March at 10am here https://jorgechamgcu.eventbrite.co.uk .

Please Note: This workshop is for GCU research students only.
