The GOsC are consulting about changes to the structure of Continuing Professional Development. One compulsory element they are consulting about is that every osteopath should complete some CPD on communication and consent as this is a priority area - apart from anything else it is central to most complaints that the GOsC receive from patients.
Our CPD day involves a morning session covering a refresher of communication skills and consent with our Part Time Course Leader, Mark Waters, who has taught on this subject for a number of years. The two afternoon sessions focus on communication and consent with specific patient groups. One speaker will be considering patients with dementia, Alzheimer's and/or limited capacity, and our second speaker will be presenting on issues surrounding communication and consent with children and their parents.
The day offers a great chance for you to refresh your skills, and share experiences with fellow osteopaths.
When & Where
British School of Osteopathy (BSO)
The British School of Osteopathy (BSO) is the UK’s oldest and largest school of osteopathy. Located at the heart of central London’s cultural and commercial life, the BSO is easily accessible via major transport networks. In 2010, the BSO was shortlisted in the Charity of the Year (income £1m+) category of the Charity Times awards.
Since 2008 the BSO has offered a Master of Osteopathy degree – an integrated undergraduate master’s programme validated by the University of Bedfordshire. The course has recognised qualification status which allows graduates to apply for registration with the General Osteopathic Council, a legal requirement for anyone practicing as an osteopath in the UK.
The school also offers a number of postgraduate degrees and CPD courses for qualified practitioners of osteopathy, physiotherapy and manual therapy.
The BSO also has a pioneering osteopathic research department supporting research at all levels, including undergraduate. It houses one of the best osteopathic libraries in the world, consulted by health care practitioners worldwide.
