Whether you are suporting a friend or relative with dementia, or work in a care setting, this course can help!
The session will cover:
- Discuss in detail the ways in which Dementia could affect people (Types/Progression etc).
- Discusses the importance of interaction and communication with someone living with dementia.
- Communication tips and ideas for a flexible person-centred approach.
- Understanding behaviours and how to respond empathetically.
- Dealing with distress or challenging behaviour
- Communication methods to try with confusion or hallucinations etc.
- Overview of person-centred care and what that means for someone with dementia
- Discussion around the importance of understanding every person uniqueness and how to find out what’s important.
- Introduction to the concepts of tailored Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and Reminiscence Therapy
- To equip staff with person centred approach and to encourage ideas of ways they can improve.
- To provide practical support on implementing activities and support that’s person centred.
This course has been organised in partnership between UNISON Cymru Wales 'Wales Union Learning Fund' (WULF) project and Effro.
In order to be eligible to attend this event you must be a public service worker that either lives or works in Wales.
The webinars will be delivered Effro using MS Teams, and you can take part using your laptop, PC or mobile device. Once you have registered your place, joining instructions will be emailed to you in advance of the course start date.
