Event description

Description

Our annual Assistive Technology event that showcases new and emerging technologies for communication, access and inclusion will take place on Thursday 23 May 2019. There will be seminars, workshops and speakers plus our hall of exhibitors.

In 2019 we will have a special focus on assistive technology for creativity, the arts and expression, as well as Computer Accessibility, Communication Tools, Digital Strategies, Person-Centred Planning.

We are so pleased to announce our opening speaker of Communications Works 2019 is:

Jemima Hughes

Jemima is a disabled and deaf filmmaker and animator. She talks with an electronic communication aid, understands primarily through BSL, and accesses her computer using assistive technology. She is keen to see the voices and creativity of disabled people better represented in the media.

Jemima studied at Northern Counties School and Percy Hedley College in Newcastle, and seized every opportunity to participate in community projects, workshops and work experience placements. She made her first films with 1Voice, the Tyneside Cinema, Living Streets and for BBC Video Nation. She now lives in Kent, and since leaving college in 2013, she has developed her filmmaking and animation skills through projects at Touchbase Care, a creative centre for disabled adults in Folkestone, and by completing two online NFTS courses with Futurelearn.
