Description

Have your say: Community Access Group

Wednesday 1st of November 4-6pm

We are looking for Vounteers to join our new Community and Access Group. This group will consist of people, or people who work with clients who require additional support in order to visit and access Turner Contemporary. These people might visit for learning, therapeutic or social reasons. They include disabled people, people who are isolated in society, people who may feel excluded and people who may not be able to visit on their own for a variety of reasons. This group will help us design activities suitable for disabled individuals, including the deaf and hearing impaired, those with visual impairments, those living with dementia, and neurodiverse audiences.

The involvement of our local disabled community is invaluable to guiding Turner Contemporary to enable the gallery to be a resource for all visitors. Our Community Access group will be made up of disabled artists, staff, care workers and visitors, who will act as critical friends to Turner Contemporary. Their role will be to hold up a mirror to our practices and reflect back to us honestly and supportively, helping us to understand the particular needs and interests of our disabled visitors, identifying barriers and providing solutions for continuous improvement. We recognise that this process will never be complete and there will always be room for further improvement, so we plan to hold regular sessions for this group, the frequency of this will be decided at this session.
