Community + Belonging: a Black Feminist Reading Group + Discussion
Event Information
About this Event
At the Black Feminist Bookshop we create space for Black women and non-binary people to use Black feminist literature to generate strategies for self and collective care and liberation.
For December, we're asking the question: What do the words community and belonging mean to you? What are the nuances between them if any? In what ways can we foster reciprocity in our communities and our lives? How can we find community and belonging, especially in these times and when we find them in what ways can we practice self and collective care?
Bring a book or a piece of writing by a Black feminist/queer Black person that you want to share and discuss in response to this question. As always, whatever you choose and however you respond is up to you and again, and - no pressure - you don't have to read to the group if you don't want to.
Before you join us, please make sure to read the safer spaces policy. This is essential, as it sets the tone for the kind of space we are creating.
This event is for women (trans, intersex and cis) and non-binary people who are Black/of African heritage, including people of mixed heritage.
Please note this event will take place on Zoom. All registered participants will be emailed the link 24 hours before the event. Please remember to check your email the day before the event is due to go live.
Please get in touch with the Black Feminist Bookshop at blackfeministreading@gmail.com with any questions or access needs you would like us to be aware of.
