Community Café: Cake & Conversation on Ageing Well in Herne Hill
You are warmly invited to join Herne Hill's first ever Community Cafe, discussing ageing well over a slice of cake! Saturday 1 October, 2-4pm at Herne Hill Baptist Church, Half Moon Lane (arrival from 1.45pm)
More of us are living longer than ever before - 1 in 4 of us will be over 65 by 2040 and the over 85s are the fastest growing age group in the UK. To live well in later life, our community needs to adapt so that we can all have opportunities to enjoy life, feel well, stay active and participate in our communities. Yet the UK remains "woefully underprepared" for ageing population - leaving people lonely, disconnected, unsupported and unable to live well in later life.
This event marks UN Older People’s Day (1 October) - a chance to celebrate living longer, reflect on the contributions older people make to society and seek your views to ensure that everyone, no matter their age, can access what they need to live well in our community. Your contributions will help to develop a model for community engagement on access to ageing well and action to improve later life in Herne Hill.
What is it that enables our wellbeing in later life and how can we access this - regardless of age, ability, diversity, mobility, income and digital inclusion – and support others to live well in our community? Join us for a slice of cake, a cup of tea and contribute your ideas, enthusiasm, concerns and solutions on how we can access what we need to:
- Enjoy life & feel well
- Participate in an active community
- Feel safe, secure and connected at home
- Have enough money
- Maintain health & wellbeing
Come along, bring your friends, neighbours and ideas - join us in a community conversation over tea and cake and lets make Herne Hill a great place to grow older for us all!
