Description

Free Community Defib Awareness Training

Sunday 22nd April 2018 15.00 - 17.00

The UK Resuscitation Council estimates that there are around 30,000 cardiac arrests outside of hospital every year in the UK. Currently, less than one in ten survive.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to someone who has collapsed in cardiac arrest. The shock can potentially allow a normal heart rhythm to resume, and the sooner it is delivered, the better their chance of survival. Therefore increasing the number of AED’s available in public places, directly increases the survival rates of cardiac arrest victims.

The Exeter Street Hall has been awarded a fully funded Automated External Defibrillator (AED) care of the Sussex Heart Charity who work hard to promote heart care in the community. In addition, The British Heart Foundation, a charity fighting to end heart disease, have also donated a full CPR training kit to the Hall.

AED’s are designed to be used by members of the public. They are easy to use, compact, portable and very effective. It can be found in an external cabinet on the exterior of the Hall and is available to the community 24/7.

2 hour CPR & AED training sessions are being provided by Flora and her team from Elements First Aid. Training will be available FREE to all members of the community that use the Hall, live nearby or spend time in the Prestonville area.

Come along and find out how easy it is to use. This practical session will include how to assess a collapsed casualty, recovery position, CPR and safe use of the AED. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing you don’t mind rolling around on the floor in. Participation is encouraged but not mandatory!

Spaces are limited so although it is free, booking is essential as we need to know how many are attending. The initial training courses were FULL so please cancel your place if you can no longer attend so that another member of the community can take your place.

DONATIONS: The defibrillator costs approximately £100 per year to maintain. This includes the cost of replacement pads and batteries. If you would like to make a donation so that we can keep this amazing lifesaving piece of equipment in the heart of our community then please bring along some change to put in the donation box.
