Event description
Sharing learning and priorities for action from 'Community & Dementia: Creating Better Lives' events across Scotland.

About this event

Over the last three years, the Life Changes Trust has worked with people living with dementia, unpaid carers of people with dementia, communities and stakeholders from the independent and statutory sectors in all fourteen health board areas to learn about what is needed to create better lives and influence dementia policy and practice at a local level.

Through a mixture of meetings, applied storytelling sessions and regional events, we have learned what works well and what people with lived experience say they need and what is important to them locally.

This webinar will bring together a summary of this learning since the first event in 2018.

The event will be chaired by Dr Kainde Manji, Project Manager of ‘About Dementia’ (which is hosted by Age Scotland and is one of our national legacy partners).

Join us to hear more about:

Applied storytelling as a tool to understand what really matters to people affected by dementia -

Shona Cowie (Village Storytelling Centre) will describe how a series of applied storytelling sessions for people living with dementia, unpaid carers and those who work with and support them, created a set of local priorities in each area, and how these local priorities are influencing a set of national priorities.

What we learned about putting on this ambitious programme of events and influencing -

Arlene Crockett (Life Changes Trust) will reflect on our engagement and regional influencing, including the planning, the successes and the learning to share with others looking to meaningfully engage with and empower people with dementia and unpaid carers.

An evaluation of the regional small grants programme -

Blake Stevenson will share initial findings from their independent evaluation of the regional small grants programmes, which ran alongside the regional events work.

What care means to people with lived experience of dementia -

We will end with a national perspective on what care means from people living with dementia and unpaid carers.

The webinar will be recorded and posted later on the Trust’s website.
