Dudley's Community Engagement Network
welcomes CDX and colleagues from across the West Midlands
Wednesday 27 June 2012, 10am-1pm (register from 9.30am)
INSIGHT House, Pearson Street, Brierley Hill, DY5 3BL
At this networking event you will have the opportunity to meet others who engage and work with communities from across the West Midlands. You will set the agenda on the day, discussions will reflect and respond to issues and concerns that participants are facing, and interesting and inspiring stories that people have to share.
In Dudley our Community Engagement Network events have aimed to offer support in difficult times and this event similarly seeks to stimulate peer support. We understand that things continue to be difficult for many people in a range of organisations at the moment. We feel that despite this there are still steps we can all take towards more empowering approaches to engaging communities.
What to expect at this FREE network event:
- A warm welcome and refreshments (from 9.30pm)
- A relaxed and informal event
- A genuine opportunity to build relationships with people from other organisations and localities
- Support from CDX Chief Executive Nick Beddow and Policy Officer Emma Lees
- Group discussions on issues and ideas which are important to you
- Useful information to take away
- Updates on FREE support and training in relation to engaging communities and community development
Small donations towards the cost of drinks and room hire are welcomed on the day.
Particpants at our previous network events all reported increased confidence in their work engaging communities as a result of coming along.
What not to expect:
Training. This is not a training session.
Who we welcome at the networking event:
Anyone from the public sector, voluntary and community sector, faith groups or private sector in or around the West Midlands with an interest in working with communities. This includes community development workers, officers and volunteers who are required to inform, consult, or involve communities, and people who manage community grants or contracts, or are involved in commissioning.
CDX is the national, independent membership organisation for community development, based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. CDX works to ensure community development is understood by practitioners, funders and policy makers, and is widely applied for the benefit of communities. CDX has over 1000 members including agencies, projects and teams, networks and individuals from across the statutory, non-profit and private sector, reflecting a wide range of professional disciplines and community experience. All CDX members share the belief that community development values and principles should be at the heart of working with communities.
engaging together is an empowering approach to engaging communities used by organisations across Dudley Borough. The Community Engagement Network aims to bring together people from different organisations who have an interest in community engagement. The network will encourage relationship building, working and learning together, reflective practice, and identification of issues in relation to engagement. Members who are seeking contracts should refrain from using this network for promotion or advertising as it will interfere with the value of the network to others.
