ENGAGING WITH BAME COMMUNITIES

About this Event

ENGAGING WITH BAME COMMUNITIES

Facilitators – Julian Harrison and Barbara Czyznikowska

THE PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING

To increase your confidence and competence in engaging with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities

WHAT THE TRAINING INVOLVES

There are four sessions:

The first session looks at issues to do with language and definitions and assesses the question of why we need to engage. It also includes a brief refresh on Equality and Diversity, focusing on matters such as discrimination, the ‘protected characteristics’, equality duties and legal considerations.

The second session examines what we mean by stereotypes, how ‘unconscious bias’ can play a part, and finishes with a discussion and an exchange of knowledge.

The session immediately after lunch is geared around good and sound practice. It offers many useful practical tips and includes a case study.

The final session begins with an assessment of common pitfalls and then gives you the chance to show what you have learnt and how it relates to your work as well as looking at certain key principles. We conclude with a broad discussion, allowing time for feedback and an examination of context as well as detail.
