Description

Community Litter Pick and Afternoon drop in Art/photography project - Plympton

A fun, social and creative day for all ages! Families and animals welcome.

Litter isn’t always rubbish – just because someone has tossed it away, it doesn’t mean it can’t be useful again.

We’re not suggesting taking everything you find home with you but maybe it’s time for a fresh way of thinking about litter?

We will show you how to creatively transform litter into Art and Photographic outcomes

Litter can be a useful resource and if it can be recycled (without harming yourself or damaging the recycling stream) that’s great news for a cleaner country and a healthier future for the planet.

Some of the simplest, commonly-found things to recycle are aluminium (fizzy drinks or beer) cans and plastic bottles.

We at community photographic studios have teamed up with Clean Our Patch - Community Litter Pickers, a hard-working community volunteer group based in Plymouth, to help its members on their mission to clean the streets of Plymouth and keep them tidy.

Plan for the day

10am Meet at community photographic studios and walk down to peacock meadows to start our litter pick.
12'oclock Time for tea and cake!
12-4pm Drop in Art & Photography session Gather litter and make shadow art sculptures,Project object you have collected larger than life, make photograms, make hand-made slides, enlarge your objects and see them at a microscopic level!

What you will learn

Shadow Art Sculptures:

You will make Shadow Art from the litter and objects collected that will be manipulated to cast incredibly realistic shadows of different reconisble shapes from animals, machines and much more...we will explore the work of artists Tim Noble and Sue Webster who take shadow sculpture to an extraordinary new level.

Photograms:

A photogram is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paper and then exposing it to light in a darkroom. The technique is sometimes called cameraless photography. We will be exploring the work of Man Ray for inspiration and show you examples of artist in our library.

Hand made slides

A photo slide is a specially mounted individual image intended for projection onto a screen using a slide projector. This allows a small photograph to be viewed and projected larger than life.

We are going to use bits of transparent litter in a slide projector to project and enlarge to make unquie objects of art.

Macro Photography

You will take close up photographs (using digital cameras and specilaits lenses, lighting in our photography studio) of the litter collected to capture small details that will appear larger than life.Don't worry if you never done photography before, two professional photographers and educators will be on hand to help.

23rd of June all the work produced will be exhibited alongside another wearable art project at the studios.

This is a FREE event all we ask is a donation on the day towards tea / coffee and cake.
