About this event

Join us for the first stage of the Glasgow Human Rights Network official relaunch in the Clarice Pears Building (room 103b). Come along to find out more about the Network, how you can get involved, and to meet other academics working on human rights across Glasgow.

The afternoon is supported and co-organised by the University of Glasgow’s rights-based Community Matters programme.

The Glasgow Human Rights Network (GHRN) was formed in January 2011 and comprises members from universities across Glasgow, as well as practitioners, civil society, third sector and community groups, and national and local government representatives. The Network aims to support teaching, research, knowledge exchange, engagement and impact around human rights, facilitating links between academics and students across Glasgow and supporting collaboration between universities, practitioners, activists, and government. It has previously hosted a range of public events and research projects, as well as an active Postgraduate cluster for Masters and PhD students.

You can find out more about the Network and its previous activities at https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/glasgowhumanrightsnetwork/.

After a period of dormancy, the GHRN Working Group are looking to relaunch the Network as a Scottish hub for interdisciplinary human rights expertise. This first-stage event is open to academics and students from any university in Glasgow, who want to find out more about the Network’s activities and learn how they can contribute in the coming year. Following those introductions and discussions, we will next reach out to invite and welcome our human rights colleagues in the wider community to join us as we plan the way-forward together.

If possible, attendees are asked to prepare a one-minute introduction and a single PowerPoint slide on their human rights work for the first part of the session, in order to see the breadth of work being done on human rights across Glasgow and to make new connections across the Network. This can be submitted to ghrn@glasgow.ac.uk in advance of the session.

In the second part, we’ll then break out into groups to share thoughts on potential priorities for the Network, who else should be at the table as we go forward, and how to best support the human rights community across Glasgow - as well as sharing current news, forthcoming events of interest, and options for how you can get involved in the Network’s activities
