Community Open House: The Migration Journey Game
Overview
Join us for a special Open House where English for Action ESOL learners at Latin American Women’s Aid (LAWA) invite the local community, our neighbours, and local charities to take part in a unique, interactive event: A life-size Snakes and Ladders game based on our students’ real migration journeys.
This giant floor game brings to life the challenges and joys faced by migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers as they navigate the UK’s complex systems, drawn from real experiences shared in our classroom.
Why this event?
At EfA, we teach English through community organising, relationship-building, and shared action. Our ESOL learners created this game to:
- share their lived experiences of the migration system,
- highlight the strength, creativity, and resilience within the migrant community,
- start conversations with local organisations,
- and open our classroom to Hackney residents and partners.
At EfA, we do more than teach language — we create a welcoming space where learners support each other and form friendships. You’ll get a taste of how our ESOL classes bring people together to learn, share, and organise for lasting change. This event is an opportunity to open that space to a wider audience and show what our community is all about.
Come and be our guest — enjoy delicious snacks, meaningful conversation, and discover more about our inclusive ESOL community.
