This essential clinical skills session is designed to equip registered nurses and nursing associates with the theoretical knowledge and practical understanding to manage patients’ with catheters safely and effectively.
What the session covers:
- Male and female urethral, suprapubic, and intermittent catheterisation
- Bladder washouts
Learning outcomes – by the end of the session, you will:
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of the bladder
- Gain confidence in applying safe catheterisation care techniques
- Identify evidence-based indications and contraindications for each procedure
- Understand your legal and professional responsibilities in relation to catheter care
- Strengthen your knowledge of infection prevention and control, with a focus on HCAIs, UTIs, and E. coli bacteraemia
- Demonstrate correct aseptic technique on a mannequin
