About this event
To celebrate International Repair Day, we’re bringing free electrical & textile repairs to local residents!
Get involved in the fixing process and experience the beauty of community repair events. Aside from reducing waste and extending the life of your items, this is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more from our volunteer fixers about how to repair your devices and textiles. No experience needed, just bring your curiosity and willingness to learn!
This community repair event is a collaboration between the Barbican Centre and The Restart Project. It will take place in the Freestage area on Level G (enter via Silk Street or Lakeside).
Please book a fixing slot below. Walk ins are also welcome - we will do our best to squeeze you in, but please be aware that we can’t guarantee that a fixer will be available to look at your item. You may also have to wait to be seen by a fixer.
A quick note on electricals:
Our volunteer repairers can attempt to fix most small household appliances. However, we won't be able to fix the following: white goods, microwaves, printers, e-bikes, e-scooters, or EV batteries, smartphones or tablets, televisions or monitors.
Please remember to bring any spare parts, chargers or cables along with your item.
Do you have a Windows 10 laptop?
Bring it along to get some advice on how you can extend it's life and keep using it! Please book the specific Windows 10 software advice ticket for this.
On the 14th of October- ironically just 4 days before this event and on International E-Waste Day itself-support for Windows 10 will end, leaving lots of laptops obsolete. So this year, the focus of our International Repair Day Campaign, is fighting software obsolescence; with a focus on the mountain of e-waste that will be created when Microsoft ends this support.
Please note:
- Our fixers are volunteers and will do their very best to diagnose and fix your item. However, this isn’t always possible. If it's not possible, our fixers will help you diagnose the issue and identify potential next steps.
- Please let us know what you're planning on bringing, we'll let you know [in advance] if this is something we can't repair
- We’re happy to help you learn how to repair. We are not repair professionals, and Repair Cafes are a community self-repair space. Attending means that you take responsibility for your own gadget. Please back up your data.
