Description

PRESTON CITY COUNCIL AND UCLAN ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT PRESTON SOCIAL FORUM'S MINI-CONFERENCE - "COMMUNITY WEALTH BUILDING AND TAKING BACK CONTROL".

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS TED HOWARD & ED MILIBAND MP

This exciting open public event marks the tenth anniversary of the global economic crash and celebrates how communities are seeking to become fairer, more resilient and democratic.

This is most notable in Preston and Lancashire who are working towards a fairer and more democratic local economy through community wealth building.

The event will include:

An update on progress toward the Lancashire Community Bank and why we need local control of finance.

A short presentation on Fairerpower Red Rose - a new local not for profit alternative to the Big 6 energy companies.

An introduction by Preston's Cooperative Development Network. Now legally constituted and committed to expanding the cooperative economy in Preston.

Neil Mcinroy and Matt Jackson from the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) revealing the success in localising procurement spend within Preston and wider Lancashire by our major placed based “anchor institutions”

We are privileged special guests Ted Howard from The Democracy Collaborative in Cleveland and former Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband MP will also address the conference on how new economic ideas and movements offer hope nationally and international in the context of the systemic failure of the current economic model.

This also includes the debate about how to genuinely "take back control" following the decision to leave the European Union last year.

**All this and much more. So please come along and bring a friend (or plenty of friends!) to this exciting event.**
