What is Compassion?

Compassion is an empathetic or emotional understanding of our own feelings as well as the feelings of others. With training and practice we can develop the skills to bring compassion into our everyday lives.

How Can Compassion Help Me?

Scientific research into Compassion and the brain shows how it can:

- Reduce anxiety and depression
- Increase our resilience, bringing perspective and wisdom when dealing with life's stresses
- Help us understand and handle challenging emotions
- Boost the immune system and help with the management of chronic pain

Course Details:

Our CBLC is designed as a follow on course for those who have participated in our Mindful Based Living Course MBLC, or for those with existing Mindful experience.

We use a variety of Mindfulness and Compassion exercises to help you develop positive habits and acknowledge your innate qualities of kindness, empathy, acceptance, strength, courage, equanimity and joy; which have all been proven to have a profound effect on our mind and our wellbeing.

The 8 week programme contains 16 hours of teaching and experiential learning. Sessions include guided mindfulness practices and teaching by an experienced practitioner. You will be given a course manual, recordings of the practices on an MP3 player and a certificate to confirm completion of the course. There is also an option to have two 1:1 sessions with your course tutor during the 8 weeks to discuss how your mindful and compassion practice is developing.

  • Creating conditions for safeness

  • Befriending the self-critic

  • Finding the compassionate friend

  • The Four Immeasurable Qualities

  • Widening the circle of compassion

  • Compassion in action


A follow up day will be held after the course has finished.
