Description

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) for Sexual Abuse and Rape - managing emotions and fear of compassion

This workshop will introduce the audience to the CFT model, and how this can be usefully adapted to help practitioners and clients understand difficulties associated with sexual trauma. We will explore how taking an evolutionary understating of our minds and bodies can be a helpful way of deshaming difficulties associated with sexual trauma, and learn how a model of emotion regulation used in CFT can provide a template for working with people to find ways of managing distress. We will also explore common fears, blocks and resistances to compassion are common when working in this area, and what clinicians can do to understand and work with this in a helpful way.

The workshop will include some time for personal practice of core skills and exercises used in CFT, including how developing the ‘compassionate self’ can help to address distress.
