Description

Compassion Focused Therapy for people with attachment trauma and personality disorder, working at the edge of Therapeutic Opportunity

This one-day event will feature one of the UK's leading clinicians in CFT for attachment trauma and personality disorder., Kate Lucre. Attendees will be shown the science, clinical applications and latest research findings of Compassion Focused Therapeutic work with people with a personality disorder diagnosis.

Highlights of the day will include:

  • An introduction to Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) in relation to the needs and experiences of people who meet the criteria for a diagnosis of personality disorder and have significant relational and attachment trauma. Kate will share details of the key principles which she has found to have enabled growth and healing for her clients.
  • The first presentation of research findings from a 5-year evaluation of a 12 month compassion focused therapy programme for people with complex needs and those who are categorised as having a personality disorder. A comprehensive data set will be shared including quantitative outcomes as well as rich qualitative material.
  • Consideration of the application of compassion to oneself in terms of a personal practice framework, in recognition of the significant challenge that working people at the edge of therapeutic opportunity presents to clinicians.
  • The opportunity to consider new and hopeful perspectives in relation to working with people with this diagnosis. Kate Lucre will share the history of her work ‘at the edge of therapeutic opportunity' and share her passion to tackle the stigma associated with the diagnostic categories and also how redundant they often are in supporting people towards a change process.
  • The day will also feature a presentation from Jim Audley, a service user consultant who will share his lived experience of personality disorder, his journey through Compassion Focused Therapy and beyond to teaching and training others in this model.
  • An experiential workshop, utilising action methods, body focused work and some introduction to group analytical practices which underpin the Compassion Focused Group Psychotherapy model.
