Summary:
‘Our daily lives are shaped primarily by our experiences in the teams of which we are a part.’ (Michael West, 2021) Our interactions and behaviours shape and are shaped by the cultures in our teams. Explore the 4 levels of compassionate teamworking we need to pay attention to if we are to create teams of people who deliver high quality compassionate care.
Aim:
Explore the 4 levels of compassionate teamworking.
Objectives:
- Recognise the principles of compassion
- Appreciate the key dimensions of effective team-based working.
- Identify the four levels of compassionate team working

Sarah-Jane Dale is Chief Operating Officer at Affina Organisation Development (AOD), a prominent national specialist in team-based working and a part of the Skills for Care group. With a background deeply rooted in, workforce development, and continuous improvement, Sarah-Jane is an accomplished organisation development practitioner with a keen interest in behavioural psychology.
Passionate about increasing awareness of inspirational research and global evidence surrounding team effectiveness, Sarah-Jane continually seeks innovative ways to engage and develop teams. Her work with AOD continues to shape practices in health and social care across the UK.
Sarah Jane’s particular areas of interest are group dynamics and the development of inter-team working and compassionate leadership to increase organisational culture and leadership capability.
