The Digital Policy Alliance will host a meeting on Thursday 12 June at 1000 in Westminster, chaired by Lord Clement-Jones, of the Digital Competition Working Group.

We are meeting at a critical moment to consider the international implications of the UK’s approach to digital regulation. With the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA) now passed, its implementation has granted the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) enhanced powers to regulate large tech firms, oversee mergers, and enforce antitrust and competition laws.

In recent months, the EU has initiated significant enforcement actions under the DMA against Apple & Meta with Google & X likely to follow. These actions have heightened tensions with the US, where tech firms and political figures have framed the EU's measures as discriminatory. Nonetheless, under the second Trump administration, the US has continued to pursue antitrust cases against its own major tech companies.

This meeting will include: representation from the CMA; Owen Meredith, CEO, News Media Association; Tim Cowen, Preiskel & Co, together with policymakers and legal experts on these pressing issues. The meeting will include a discussion of “The future of News”, based on the recent report by the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee.
