About the lecture:
The talk will focus on the challenges that a competition agency in a small country with a transitional economy must face, to produce changes on the long-term, with a description of the evolution of institutions and stakeholders involved in the decision-making process. Emphasis will be placed on concrete experiences of Chile and in the context of Latin America.
About the speaker:
Mr. Irarrázabal was appointed as National Economic Prosecutor by the President of the Republic in 2010, through a selection process conducted by the agency in charge of recruiting high level public officials. Prior to his appointment as National Economic Prosecutor, he was partner at law firm Philippi, Yrarrázaval, Pulido & Brunner. Additionally, he has worked at Cleary, Gotlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York, U.S.A. and in the Ministry of Education of Chile. He holds a law degree from Universidad de Chile and an LL.M. from Yale University School of Law, U.S.A. Since 2000, he is a professor of Economic Law at the School of Law of Universidad de Chile.
