Event description

Description

Study the theory behind jazz and popular music’s use of melody (shape, range, rhythmic structure etc), and harmony (including chords, scales, chord progressions and substitutions), culminating in a “top line” composition. To do this course you will need to be able to read treble and bass clef, have a basic grasp of scale and chord formation, access to a keyboard as well as a sound grasp of jazz/pop harmony. We will study aspects of arranging such as instrumental ranges and transposition, rhythm section notation and score layout culminating in an arrangement of a “standard” for small band.

This course runs on Monday evenings at 6.30-9.30pm from Monday 8th January - Monday 19th March 2018 (no class Monday 12th February).
