Event description

Description

Composting is an environmentally-friendly way of recycling kitchen and garden waste. Learn what materials can be composted, the difference between 'hot' and 'cold' composting methods and how to make use of compost on your garden or allotment or community garden.

By the end of this practical session you will be able to

  • Explain what compost is, how it is made

  • List the benefits of composting, how it supports the soil food web and helps build soil

  • Compare and contrast 'home-made' compost with other related soil-building practices e.g. using leafmould, green manures, using comfrey, compost teas, biochar and wormeries.

There will also be time for some troubleshooting of any problems you have with these techniques.

There will be a 'bring and share' vegetarian lunch for participants. Hot soup and rolls will be provided plus whatever you can bring.

Donations on the day in support of the community garden running costs much appreciated.
