Computer Story Generation Then and Now: Planning, Patterns and Prediction in Narrative AI

A special lecture with Marie-Laure Ryan hosted by MA Narrative Environments / Spatial Practices Programme Lectures / Central Saint Martins

Marie-Laure Ryan is a theorist and independent scholar known for her influential work in narrative theory, media theory and representations of space. She has authored and edited numerous seminal works, including Narrative as Virtual Reality and Avatars of Story, which have shaped contemporary understandings of narrative, immersion, and interactivity. Her work examines the intersection of narrative and artificial intelligence, investigating how AI both generates and transforms stories.

Ryan is a recipient of the MLA prize for independent scholars for Possible Worlds, Artificial Intelligence and Narrative Theory and the MLA prize for comparative literature for Narrative as Virtual Reality. In 2017 she received the lifetime achievement award from the International Society for the Study of Narrative.
