What is a Computing Festival?
The Tablet Academy are excited to offer schools the opportunity to take part in a free Computing Festival where students will be exposed to some of the most innovative uses of technology in the classroom. During the Festival students will have the opportunity to program robots, collaborate in Minecraft, develop online games and program their own LEGO creations.
The Computing Festivals are designed for Key Stage 2 (Years 5&6) and Key Stage 3 (Years 7&8) students and focus on the Computing Curriculum. They provide teachers with the opportunity to see what is available to support the curriculum and students the chance to experience new technology.
Hour of Code: Develop your own online game.
Minecraft: Collaborate to programme a Lighthouse
Dash Robots: Program robots to complete the maze
Lightbot: Use logical thinking to program a virtual robot
Robotic Arm: Remove the "Nuclear waste" using the robotic arm
LEGO WeDo: Build and program your own machine
Pupil Workshops (09:00-11:30 and 13:30-16:00)* - The day is split into two workshops, morning and afternoon, each workshop can accomodate up to 30 pupils consisting of 1 teacher and up to 5 students from 6 different schools. The workshops are led by consultants from the Tablet Academy who will guide staff and students through the circuit of activities allowing pupils to learn and teachers to observe and learn as well.
*Learning content is repeated in both the morning and afternoon workshops.
What's the catch?
There's no catch. Acer and Gaia Technologies provide technology and services to schools across England and Wales. The Festivals provide schools with the opportunity to see and experience new solutions that can be accessed through Gaia and Acer. The hope is that teachers and pupils will be inspired to embed the use of new tech.
