FREE TALK

Best known as the mastermind behind Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was also a prominent campaigner during the First World War.

After witnessing first hand the devastation of bullets and shrapnel when his son was seriously wounded in battle, Conan Doyle became a committed advocate of better armour for soldiers. Philip Abbott, Archives and Records Manager at
the Royal Armouries, Leeds, will discuss his campaign – and the War Office’s response.
