Event description
An intensive one-day oil painting workshop exploring colour mixing and how colours interact in a painting.

About this event

“There is no blue without yellow and without orange.” - Vincent Van Gogh

This is a one-day workshop for people with little or lots of experience painting to spend an intensive day exploring colour, colour mixing and colour relationships. In the morning, we will go over the basics of palette set-up, look at interesting uses of colour in modern and old master paintings, and discuss some basic colour theory. We will de-mystify some colour terms such as hue, complementary relationships, saturation, temperature and relativity through accessible exercises. After lunch you'll have the chance to work on a longer painting incorporating what you discovered in the morning. You will leave the workshop having been immersed in colour, with a better understanding of colour relationships and having tried out some new approaches to colour in oil painting.

This is a small group class with 5 students max to enable social distancing (masks required), and a great deal of individual attention is given. The class takes place in our private studio in Stoke Newington, just south of Clissold Park (access up two flights of stairs). We will keep the windows cracked open and there is at least 1.5m between students. We will break for an hour for lunch from 12:30-1:30. Tea and biscuits provided!

Marcia Teusink is a practising artist, educator and organiser of Draw London Art Workshops.
