Concrete Imaginings Part 2 for Hydracity

on Saturday 27 September 2:30 - 5pm

Meet outside the main entrance of Rainham Station

Concrete imaginings -is an Inspiral meander walk through the edgelands of London to the industrial heritage of the widening Thames, through the edge of the marshes with drawing. Led by Birgitta Hosea and Sarah Sparkes.

Engaging all the senses and using drawing and writing, we will record thoughts, sounds, lines, shapes and smells along the way. We will end up at the WW2 concrete barges on Frog Island where we will assemble all notes and sketches made on the walk into concrete visual poems. No previous experience of drawing or creative writing required. All materials will be provided.

Access: This is a shortish walk over easy terrain and we will be stopping regularly. There are some steps to navigate with ramps as an alternative to these.

Hydracity 2 follows Hydracity the exhibition and event which took place as part of Totally Thames 2021. Since 2021 InspiralLondon has continued to explore the vast interlacing watery commons that combines to create the unique environment of London's Thames Delta. For Totally Thames 2025 InspiralLondon offers a set of interlinked walks as events that celebrate the diversity of Community and Habitat/inhabitants that make their home among the Thames' watery landscapes.

Inspiral Re/walks explore, excavate, exchange is supported by tfl WalkingCyclingGrant London.

Organized by

InspiralLondon CIC is a non-profit project - a collective of walking artists, project associates (urban planning, geography, ecology, architecture) and urban explorers - working together to create then nourish a 300 mile spiralling walking trail through the whole of London. Conceived as an artist-led walking project to create an urban/semi-urban walking trail through Metropole of London, under the umbrella of MT (Metropolitan Trails 2013). The route follows both existing footpaths and passageways, while creating new ways in which to explore and find a way through the city. The trail is an invitation for all to explore, rediscover and reconnect with their city; to begin to rethink the urban, the metropolitan and its relation to other and to inhabiting place.
