About this event

Feeling like a fraud who doesn't deserve certain opportunities and experiences is a very common phenomenon. Arriving in a new environment, such as university, can heighten these feelings.

Whilst this is very normal, allowing these feelings to dominate and control your behaviour, feelings and thoughts can lead to negative consequences. There are many methods of managing these feelings, and we are here to help.

Join us on Monday 10th November 2025, as Liane Thakur, a UCL Student Counsellor and CBT Therapist and Lynne Mark, a UCL Student Counsellor and Psychodynamic Therapist talk about how we can increase our confidence and reclaim self-belief. Find out how to take control of your inner world and recognise all that you truly are. You will also learn:

  • What causes 'imposter syndrome', from personal life experiences to influential cultural and systemic factors.
  • How you can let go of thinking your mindset is the main problem.
  • Understand the main mistakes that can embed imposter feelings in your mindset, so that you can move beyond them once and for all.
  • Practical action-focused steps you can take to stop feeling like a fraud, show up confidently, step into your power and have the success and respect you deserve.
  • There will be time at the end of the talk for a Q&A.

This session is part of UCL's Your Guide to Thrive campaign, organised by UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Services.
