With the recent publication of the veterinary workforce modelling in December 2024, join us as we revisit the seven ambitions of our Workforce Action Plan published in 2022.
It’s been two and a half years since the publication of the Workforce Action Plan, which sets out the key areas in which the veterinary sector—including representative organisations, employers, charities and other stakeholder groups—can work together to mitigate the impact of the ongoing workforce shortages in the professions.
Via its seven ambitions, the Action Plan presents what the College is doing to tackle the issues. It also details how collaboration, culture change, career development, and leadership—among other things—could help with workforce shortages by improving retention of current professionals, encouraging new entrants, and supporting the return of those who have left.
But what now?
With our new workforce model, we now have access to data which shows us where the professions could be headed in the future. A lot has changed over the past few years, and it is important that we keep ahead of the curve and work together to understand how we can best continue to move forward.
In this series of interactive webinars, we will be revisiting each of the individual ambitions set out within the Action Plan, answering your questions and discussing how, together, we can ensure a bright future for the professions.

This sixth session will be based around Ambition Two: Confidence, culture and recognition. Within the session our expert panel will discuss how the College will continue to support and create resources to help members of the professions to feel more confident in their roles. It will also cover the ways in which workplaces can embrace the vet-led team by delegating appropriately and recognising everyone’s contributions.
The seven ambitions are:
- Shape leaders at all levels
- Confidence, culture and recognition
- Greater responsibility for veterinary nurses
- Welcoming a modern way of working
- General practice – a chosen pathway
- An attractive career for everyone, including those who have left
- Improving client interaction and communication
